SECCA DELL’ARCO (Arch’s Shoal)

The dive takes place on a characteristic spot which is part of an ancient coastline established for several hundred meters, off the renowned “Poetto” beach.

While descending along the anchor line, at a depth of 14m, you can notice the “roof” of this particular and characteristic structure formed by granite’s blocks, while the mixed composition of the bottom shaped by sand, rocks and posidonia seagrass meadows is surrounding the area at a depth of about 19m .

All around the granitic structure are swimming schools of damselfishes, breams and a permanent school of barracudas occasionally of considerable size, while the several gorges create an ideal habitat for groupers, brown meagres, moray eels, octopuses and many nudibranchs.

Special feature of this dive is a characteristic arch structure formed by some granite blocks stacked on each other, which creates a beautiful play of light and is easily crossable by the divers.

This dive site is suitable for divers of all levels due to the relatively shallow depth and the sea area which is quite protected from the mistral winds; still, it is well suited to more experienced divers as well, especially scooter/DPV divers, since the dive site grows well in a longitudinal direction along the ancient coastline offering a wide area to be explored.
